while my husband was deployed he bought me this broach. it is a real piece of a tree dipped in silver. it looked rather christmasy to me so i decided to make this shadow box it's home until those moments when i want to wear it. i like being able to look at and enjoy it this way. :)

just a few thoughts today,
i redid my little metal thing on the wall,
i feel like it needs more, maybe some red berry sprigs?
or curled sheet music? lol!
it's simple but i like it.

and this is my little silver reindeer, he makes me feel peaceful.
he just looks so free and joyful,
so i thought i'd share him with you!

and finally some verses of a passage we read at bible study today...

Love one another with brotherly affection.
Outdo one another in showing honor.
Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit,
serve the Lord.
Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.
-Romans 12:10-13

little houses in the snow
a wreath of music and stars a little tree and my current obsession with curled strips of sheet music. it's all over my house. i enjoy the contrast of the green and cream.
and finally, my tv cabinet doors filled with paper snowflakes!
well, that's the newest in my christmas decor,
hope you enjoy it!

it's beginning to look like christmas in my house. sadly having grown up with snow and cold winters it doesn't feel much like christmas most days here in san diego. but i am trying to make my home warm and festive. this is our first year we will be at our own home since getting married. i was excited to get all my stuff out because there was a couple years of decorations that we hadn't used yet!
when i was ten i started to collect nutcrackers, i now have 12 of them. all different sizes and some uniquely themed. like the cowboy, i also have some snow men and a robin hood. :) well, just thought i'd do a little post on my christmas favorites. hope you're enjoying the season! God Bless!

children

so today was interesting. it was long, and overwhelming. however, i was able to laugh some stress away when i found my son on my bathroom counter. i wanted to be mad cause he was supposed to be in his room napping but how can you get mad at that? he painted his arms in red lipstick! oh, and by the way, i don't even wear lipstick! it was something i bought over a year ago that's been sitting in the back of my make up drawer ever since other than when i take it out to write a love note to my husband on the mirror.

something new would be my "joy" banner i made on fri for christmas. it looks a lot like my sister-in-law's october 25th post, but i promise you i didn't even see hers till this morning! the something old is the banner i made in august for my little gwen. it was a lot of work but a lot of fun and i am really pleased with how it turned out. :)

fall decor

some fall decor for you (heather) i had fun getting to decorate this year for fall, it's not much but makes the house feel warmer and cozier. i stole the cabinet door idea from my sister in law, but then added the leaves. it looks so much better than all the cds and dvds stored behind it. :) the wreath was a Micheal's buy, i added the leaves, and such. all the little pictures are pics of houses, so i covered some chip board letters in black glass glitter and spelled out home. the garland of leaves is hanging on a metal wall decoration, which i found on an old bed frame out in the middle of no where while four wheeling with my husband. but because of the fact that is was previously attached to a bed it has eight little squares to help screw it down. the top four i was able to cover with the leaves but the ones on the bottom were harder to hide. so wallah! i made some letters that spell fall! :) they aren't done super well, it did it in an afternoon and just wanted to get it done, but it's better than looking at the little squares and wondering what they are there for? :) anyway, there you go heather, hope you enjoyed it. ;)

hello october

well, it's been a ridiculously long time since i've updated, but now that we are home for a while i am hoping to keep up with my blog, (actually we're gone next week but it's only a week, not 3 months!). my bleloved is finally home and got to meet his daughter for the first time. it's so nice to be a family again. i have decorated my house for fall, and got a couple more things done to the kids' room. i'll probably do seperate posts when i get the time and can just tell you about the different pictures etc... maybe later this afternoon, we'll see.

oops!

i just realized that i already posted the fabric choices, sorry, :)

finshed the crib!

ok, so my mom did all the sewing! she is a genius by the way! i did the crocheted flowers. the top pic is of the blanket which we just added the flowers and some of the pink floral fabric as a trim. the next one down is the crib organizer, which is actually currently attached to our bassinet crib in my room. the next is the full crib shot, followed by close ups of added embellishment to the dust ruffle, the bumper pads and sheet, and the inside of the crib with the pillows we made. it took a lot of work, and lots of love but i LOVE the way it turned out! (thanks mom!) i'll post again later to show what we did in the rest of the room, and what we did on my son's bed. :)

baby baby.....

ok, so here are the fabrics i picked for gwendolyn's bedding (on the left) along with the dust ruffle we had from gabriel's bedding(bottom right) and the blanket i am going to embellish a little(top right).

nesting....

so i have officially hit the nesting stage of pregnancy! sat. i cleaned my entire house from top to bottom, i couldn't stop myself! on mother's day i skipped out on church and started to paint our mini crib. it belonged to my husband when he was a baby. we used it for Gabriel but it needed a little pick-me-up color. didn't have a lot on hand but happened to have enough yellow paint to get the job done. the bars are actually darker than the rest but i kind of like it that way. ;)
so what you see here are the before and after pic.s the before really makes it look better than it was, trust me!
on Monday a friend offered to take Gabriel for a morning and i went fabric shopping for the reg. crib. my mom is making the bedding for me and I'm heading up to her house this weekend. so i wanted to have the fabrics so we can get started on the project! it took some time and a lot of looking and re-looking but i finally settled and chose the stack you see. the stuff in the green picture is the main blanket that I'm planning on adding some extra trim, ribbon etc... to. and below it is the dust-ruffle that we are also going to add a little something too.
the bigger challenge in picking colors and such is that i want it to be girly but she'll be sharing a room with her big brother. i haven't done much in his room since he moved into a twin bed and will be doing his stuff at the same time. but i want it all to match and flow nicely while still maintaining gender differences. add to that the fact that I'm picky and had a look i wanted it was a little more challenging. :) but I'm excited about what i got and can't wait to continue collecting and preparing for our dear Gwendolyn's arrival! don't worry I'll be posting my progress along the way! :)
and finally, i have a dear friend who lives back home(where my parents live and where i grew up). i suddenly felt like making a canvas collage for her, and I'm trying to get it done before i go this weekend. her bedroom is red, black and white. the white is what's proving to be a little harder since i tend to make things look old. never much real white in my art, usually creams and beige's. not to mention that i use a lot of old paper which of course is because it's aged and old, not white and new! so it's been a good challenge! here is a picture of the work in progress. enjoy!

finished product....

well, i finally purchased and eyelet setter kit! i've been wanting one for awhile but just never felt like spending the money. (happy early mother's day to me!)as i started working on these pages last night i could just see using an eyelet or two and decided that now was the time to get one! it was so fun to watch this come together, but i always enjoy the process. :) i have decided that this will be an inspirational journal of sorts. i'll have a verse on every page and then a space for me to journal whenever the journalling bug hits. :) i'm glad i finished it tonight though because now i have a week to start and finish a larger canvas i want to do for a friend. i just thought of it tonight and i only have till next fri. to get it done. we'll see if i can actually accomplish my set goal, i actually have a rather busy week....however one can always make time for art right? :) well, time for bed, goodnight world!

at it again, it feel's so good to be creating again! however i find that i wish for more tools. i almost bought a kit to do holes and brads etc.... but decided to wait, boy am i sorry. i ended up wishing i had it tonight. i guess that means i'll go buy it tomorrow, :) anyway, i'm going to keep this short cause i need to get to bed. :)
